Myasthenia Gravis

Myasthenia gravis is a chronic autoimmune neuromuscular disease in which the immune system produces antibodies that block or destroy the receptor sites at the junction between nerves and muscles. This disrupts the signals that tell muscles to contract, resulting in weakness and rapid fatigue of the voluntary muscles, particularly those controlling the eyes, eyelids, face, swallowing, and limb movement. Symptoms typically worsen with activity and improve with rest.

In Myasthenia gravis, the neuromuscular junction is already disrupted by an immune system attack on key proteins. Heat can further impair nerve-to-muscle signaling, meaning even small changes in temperature can worsen symptoms. Cold, by contrast, appears to have the opposite effect, leading to stronger muscle contraction.Source Myasthenia Gravis News
