Whether you're working the sidelines in a team costume, greeting guests at a theme park, ringing in the holidays as Santa, or performing in a full character outfit, your body is working hard and the heat has nowhere to go. A lightweight, low-profile cooling vest worn underneath keeps your core temperature in check so you can stay comfortable, stay in character, and stay safe.

Polar Products has been building personal cooling solutions since 1984, and our vests are a go-to for mascots, performers, and costume characters of all kinds. The key features for this application: low profile, no bulk, quiet operation, and cooling that lasts through a full appearance or shift.

Choosing Your Cooling Technology

Two technologies work particularly well for costume and mascot use, and which one fits best depends on your setup.

Kool Max® Frozen Water-Based Packs
Kool Max® packs freeze solid and deliver serious cooling energy for up to 2 hours per charge. They require a freezer to recharge, but they offer the highest level of cooling output per pack, making them a great choice when you have access to a venue freezer or a cooler backstage. If you're doing multiple appearances in a day, bring a set of spare packs and swap at breaks.

Cool58® Phase Change Packs
Cool58® packs activate at 58°F providing more subtle cooling relief. The big advantage for costume performers: these packs recharge in just 15 to 20 minutes in a cooler of ice water, no freezer needed. If you're working events where venue access is limited, Cool58® gives you the flexibility to recharge anywhere.

Both technologies fit into the pockets of Polar's adjustable and fitted vest styles, so you can mix and match packs to your preference or the demands of your schedule.

Vest Styles for Mascots & Costumes

Slim Torso Cooling Wrap
The slimmest profile in our lineup. Minimal coverage, maximum discretion. A good choice when the costume is especially fitted and you need cooling without any added dimension.

Adjustable Zipper Cooling Vest
A versatile option that works well when the costume has enough room for a standard vest silhouette. Zipper front for easy on and off between appearances.

Poncho-Style Vests
The poncho design slips over the head with no zipper or side closure to add bulk. It sits close to the torso and disappears under a mascot suit or costume layer. Available in both Kool Max® and Cool58® pack configurations, and in kit form with neck wraps and extra packs bundled together for a complete solution.
