Transverse Myelitis

Transverse Myelitis is a rare inflammatory condition that affects the spinal cord, disrupting the nerve signals that travel between your brain and the rest of your body. When inflammation damages the protective myelin sheath surrounding those nerve fibers, signals slow down, get scrambled, or stop reaching their destination altogether.

The result can be a wide range of symptoms: pain in the back, neck, or limbs; muscle weakness or paralysis; tingling, burning, or numbness; and a heightened sensitivity to both heat and cold. People with TM may experience extreme heat or cold, or even lose the ability to accurately sense the temperature of water or objects. Source: Brain & Spine Foundation
