Sciatica

Sciatica refers to symptoms that occur when the sciatic nerve, the large nerve that runs from the lower back through the hips and down each leg, becomes irritated or compressed. This can result in pain that radiates from the lower back into the buttock and down the leg, sometimes accompanied by numbness, tingling, or weakness. Symptoms can range from mild discomfort to sharp, burning pain that makes sitting, standing, or walking difficult.

Managing sciatica often focuses on reducing nerve irritation and supporting surrounding muscles. During acute flare-ups, cold therapy may help calm inflammation and temporarily ease radiating pain. As muscles tighten in response to discomfort, gentle moist heat can help relax surrounding tissues and encourage circulation. Many individuals find that alternating between cooling and heat provides flexible, non-invasive support as part of a broader care plan.
